Why Support 2014 Trauma and Dissociation Conference?
Child abuse is a huge problem in our society. Many abused children live with secrets enduring their situation. Abuse survivors live among us everywhere. Survivors are those who ‘know’ what and how children endure. They live with the secrets and the horror of their past while struggling to heal from such effects as PTSD and dissociation. Their supporters want and need solid information in order to understand and help. The clinicians who specialize in trauma and dissociation work diligently together researching and treating survivors of trauma.
Within this population much of the work done is volunteer work. Many survivors are disabled while struggling with symptoms of trauma. Many cannot even afford the therapy they need to heal. Clinicians who treat trauma survivors also volunteer much of their time.
This conference will bring about public awareness as well as benefiting many survivors who do not have adequate mental health care where they live. It will bring awareness of the horror of child abuse and the effects on adult survivors.
Outside support would be much appreciated as it would help Ivory Garden to cover expenses for the conferences. Many of the survivors only dream that they could make the trip to Seattle to participate, but cannot afford the trip. Supporting this conference demonstrates that there are organizations and individuals who support survivors of child abuse, the efforts of mental health professionals who research and treat dissociation and trauma, and the need for public awareness.
